Solving for X and Y

Two lines are carried up the hill
Your Father tells you it's his will
to struggle with the wooden "x"
Spit, rocks, and taunts are filled with hex.

The prophets' words are now fulfilled
Two lines are carried up the hill
Nails pierce your feet and hands
Your home is not on sea or land

In clouds you sit and will await
the day you come to cast the fate
two lines are carried up the hill
the books are old, but followed still

We know "why" you have summoned us
to live with hearts and faith and trust
Love pure like water that's distilled
Two lines are carried up the hill.

Oppression Sweater

Pulling woolen sweater over
Shielding my body; this cover
From Chinese factory I see
The pangs of guilt engulfing me

Do they love or hate the owner
Pulling woolen sweater over
Sweat trickles down, giving a kiss
on foreheads as they choke stale air

Inspecting stitches that they miss
Workers need money; they persist
Pulling woolen sweater over
Impatiently bosses they hover

Pricking fingers; crimson, red blood
Begins to trickle then to flood
Bigger than the Delaware's Dover
Pulling woolen sweater over.

*Note: After several discussions about modern-day slavery over the course of a year or so with my pastor, it dawned on me that most of the clothes I own come from countries involved in the hiring of child slaves. This had a huge impact on me, and shook me to my very core.

72 Hours

Three days, rose

God's House

Bright, peaceful meadows linger
Glancing beyond the serene, peaceful calm
witnessing the tortured, bruised, and broken
faces of mother's and daughter's coerced
Sold into UNgodly perversion;
acts of sexually glutenous world
The Creator Extends his welcome; radically life-changing
Life-giving

Christ brings us all to honor
His Love is unconditional
War, poverty, and famine
Knocking on the door of our hearts
We have refused to answer

Bound and enslaved by wicked oppression
Comfortable beds and a place to rest our heads
Guilt pours over us, and washes our souls
with fallen ashes of transgressions
We bathe in the white glow of forgiveness
As we remember those who deserve a voice

Easter Service

White lilies wafting
Perfume,
Filling the air
Sweetly
While loving hearts
Freely
Profess His name.
